Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson Announces Eric Sedler as New Board Member & Interim Executive at WorldBusiness Chicago

CHICAGO – [February 21, 2024] — Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and World Business Chicago announce the appointment of Eric Sedler to the board of directors of World Business Chicago (WBC). As part of his board role, Sedler has agreed to serve as Interim Executive of WBC through the end of March while a search continues for the economic development agency’s permanent president and chief executive officer. Sedler will work closely with Charles Smith, Vice Chair of WBC, during the interim leadership transition.

Sedler, a longtime resident of the city’s West Loop neighborhood, is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Avoq. He has over 30 years of experience working at the intersection of business, government, media, and civic engagement in Chicago.

“As Chair of the board, I am confident that Eric’s business expertise and extensive network within the Chicago business community will greatly benefit World Business Chicago. His appointment as Interim Executive ensures continuity as we finalize our search for a permanent chief executive officer,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson.

“I am deeply honored to join the board of directors and serve as Interim Executive at World Business Chicago,” said Eric Sedler. “I look forward to collaborating with Mayor Johnson, Charles Smith, the board, and the staff to advance World Business Chicago’s mission, and make impactful contributions to the growth of business in our city.”

“Eric’s appointment to the board underscores our unwavering commitment to driving business growth in Chicago, especially during this critical time,” said Charles E. Smith, Vice Chair, World Business Chicago. “We appreciate Eric’s willingness to step into an interim executive role, ensuring the continuity of business operations. Additionally, we extend our sincere gratitude to Michael Fassnacht for his leadership and look forward to collaborating with him as a member of both the city’s business community and WBC’s board of directors.”

This appointment takes effect immediately and will be formally ratified by the WBC Board at its upcoming board of directors meeting.
