Google’s Chicago Workforce Grows to 1,200+

On Thursday, November 7, Google opened a second Chicago office in the Fulton Market neighborhood.

In addition to the new 132,000-square-foot office space, Google also selected Chicago as a second hub for its finance operations this year.

This comes as no surprise as Chicago’s tech industry is the city’s fastest-growing industry sector.

In 2015, Google Chicago had a little over 600 full-time employees. Today, 1,200 Googlers call Chicago home. The Chicago workforce includes roles centered on product, engineering, advertising, technical infrastructure and finance roles.

“Google’s decision to open a second office in the city comes after they already doubled their local workforce over the last five years, proving why Chicago’s unparalleled access to talent and human capital has led to one of the fastest-growing tech sectors in the country,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement.

Additionally, Google will partner with Chicago’s Neighborhood Business Development Centers to deliver free trainings, tools and resources to grow digital skills, careers and businesses across Chicago’s neighborhoods through the Grow with Google program.
