The World Business Chicago Research Center has published the Chicago Business Bulletin: Chicagoland By the Numbers — an annual snapshot of the data, trends, and insights shaping the region’s economy.
This year’s report is especially significant: it serves as the anchor for Chicago 2050, our new economic plan for jobs and growth, which will be released in the coming weeks. Together, these initiatives provide both a clear view of where we stand today and a bold roadmap for where we’re going.
Key findings from By the Numbers 2024 highlight Chicago’s resilience and competitive advantage. Our $886 billion regional economy is larger than that of most countries, and for the 12th straight year, Chicago ranked #1 among U.S. metros for corporate relocations and expansions. With unmatched economic diversity — no single sector exceeding 13% of GDP — Chicago is positioned for growth in industries from advanced manufacturing and food innovation to fintech, quantum, and life sciences.
By the Numbers lays the groundwork. Chicago 2050 will carry the vision forward.
