Please join us in congratulating Ruben D. Ocampo, member of the Bogota Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI), for being selected as the 2019 Chicago Sister Cities International Volunteer of the Year.
Ruben was chosen as this year’s awardee for his work over the past year to celebrate and highlight the 10th anniversary of the Chicago-Bogota sister city relationship, as well as his leadership in bringing several CSCI committees together for a two-day program celebrating the 250th anniversary of Alexander von Humboldt’s birth and his travels and influence in several of Chicago’s sister cities.
Having recently stepped down as co-chair of the Bogota Committee earlier this year, he remains committed to CSCI as a member of the committee. Ruben’s vision and leadership have been invaluable to the success of the committee, and we are delighted to celebrate his accomplishments.
The CSCI Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes a volunteer committee member who has played an important role in furthering CSCI’s mission to promote Chicago as a global city and promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation through citizen diplomacy – one individual, one community at a time – for the benefit of Chicago and its sister cities.
The award will be presented at the 2019 Chicago Consular Corps Gala on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Hilton Chicago. Among other awards presented at the Gala include the distinguished 2019 Global Citizen Award will be presented to Samuel C. Scott III, Retired President & CEO, Corn Products International.
