WORLD BUSINESS CHICAGO EXPANDS BOARD WITH LEADERSHIP IN TECH, AI, AND QUANTUM COMPUTING FROM MICROSOFT & PSIQUANTUM

CHICAGO – September 5, 2024 — World Business Chicago is pleased to announce the ratification of two new members to its board of directors: Tony Surma, CTO of Microsoft, and Professor Jeremy O’Brien, co-founder, and CEO of PsiQuantum. These strategic additions come at a pivotal time as Chicago continues to solidify its role as a global leader in quantum computing and advanced technology.

The Chicagoland region has made significant strides in establishing itself as major hubs for innovation, particularly in tech and quantum computing. The region is home to four out of ten national research centers and produces the third-largest number of computer science graduates in the country, making up 10% of all U.S. computer science degrees. This unique combination of talent and resources positions Chicago as a leading location for groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing.

“I am honored to join the World Business Chicago board, an organization that is elevating Chicago as a hub for new industry and helping guide transformative projects to fruition that will shape the city’s future for decades,” said Prof. Jeremy O’Brien, co-founder, and CEO of PsiQuantum. “It is clear that Illinois is committed to becoming a global leader in quantum computing with its unique combination of talent, resources, and ambition and our team at PsiQuantum is excited to take on this generational challenge of unlocking quantum computing’s potential here in Chicago.”

The emergence of quantum computing in Chicago marks the beginning of a technological revolution, with PsiQuantum’s significant investment in the South Works site serving as a testament to the city’s potential. Quantum technology’s unparalleled ability to process complex data and tackle multifaceted problems is set to transform industries from logistics to pharmaceuticals. As companies like PsiQuantum push the boundaries of utility-scale quantum computers, Chicago is on track to become a global hub for innovation, attracting top-tier talent, pioneering companies, and substantial investment.

“We are excited to welcome Prof. Jeremy O’Brien and Tony Surma to our board at a time when technology is redefining industries and economies on a global scale,” said Phil Clement, President & CEO of World Business Chicago. “Their visionary leadership and expertise in innovation, tech and quantum will be instrumental as we continue to position Chicago as a global hub for transformation. His commitment to innovation perfectly aligns with our mission to drive economic development and technological advancement in our city.”
