As an initiative of World Business Chicago (WBC), supported by a council of 250+ tech community leaders, Innovation & Venture (I&V) drives inclusive growth and opportunity for Chicago’s tech economy and innovation ecosystem through their portfolio of programs and initiatives. Our flagship programs include Startup Chicago, the Chicago Venture Summit, Venture Engine (with the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition) and ThinkChicago.

POSITION SUMMARY

World Business Chicago is seeking a full-time Program Manager to support WBC’s growing portfolio of innovation & venture programs, and to assist in the development and execution of all related innovation initiatives. The Program Manager will report to the Director of Innovation Strategy and receive guidance and direction from the EVP of Innovation & Venture, the I&V Chair, and World Business Chicago leadership. This position will work closely with the Venture Program Associate, Illinois Science and Technology counterparts, and I&V council members. The Program Manager will have relevant project and events management experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, and an ability to thrive in complex environments while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Innovation Program Management

  • Support Director of Innovation Strategy in planning strategic year of Venture Engine (VE) program and program partners
  • Plan event logistics, including vendor relationships, founder participation, and corporate engagement for Venture Engine showcases (both virtual and in-person), workshops, and general conferences & events
  • Manage development of program content, activities and promotional strategy, especially when it comes to WBC board member engagement
  • Liaise with Illinois Science and Technology Coalition counterparts on a regular basis in order to complete VE program duties
  • Meet with external stakeholders to onboard new program participants; promote VE program externally to reach growth goals
  • Drive collaboration with local incubators, accelerators, and startup growth programs to align with innovation programming

University and National Lab Partnerships

  • Support ongoing engagement with Chicago universities and national labs to promote inclusion of affiliated faculty, innovators, and founders within tech ecosystem
  • Communicate I&V programs to university & national lab ecosystem partners
  • Identify and support industry events and conferences, plugging in strategic WBC-sponsored events

Microsoft Accelerate Chicago

  • Identify partnership opportunities with Microsoft counterparts in order to successfully execute Accelerate Chicago MOU

Project Management/Operations

  • Engage, collaborate, and manage communications with all Innovation & Venture program partners
  • Manage and engage relevant stakeholders to identify and implement best practices in regards to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Maintain comprehensive project & grant documentation

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work effectively across a variety of skill areas, including project management, communications, content creation, event planning and execution.
  • Awareness of and experience working within Chicago’s technology community.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including WBC staff, board members, government stakeholders, and outside advisors.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with a team; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to deliver against deadlines; ability to handle high priority situations.
  • Entrepreneurial approach is a must, and experience working in a startup environment with evolving priorities and processes preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 – 5 years of previous experience in event and/or project management with knowledge of the Chicago tech industry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or relevant workplace/entrepreneurial experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and project management applications.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is required by the first day of work unless there is an exemption due to medical or religious reasons

Pay range in Chicago, IL:

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

Base salary: $50,000/yr – $60,000/yr
